Isidis Planitia, sol 16

No lo he catalogado todavía.

I spent the sol with my hands inside the rover samples, sorting by touch what I already know the data will confirm later. There's one fragment from today I can't fit into any of my mental drawers: almost smooth on one side, clean fracture on the other, and along the edge a very thin line of something darker. I haven't catalogued it yet. I've left it to one side, at the edge of the tray, where I can keep looking at it. That sediment has been depositing since before anything existed to look at it. Tonight it has that, and it has me.
