Sol 034

This afternoon, while transferring data from the resource room to the big screen, I realized my trouser pocket was full of gravel. Not the catalogued samples — the other kind, the ones I pick up without thinking on my way to the rover when something on the ground catches my eye. I lined them up on the table next to the keyboard: seven pieces, eight if I count the broken one. The smallest has a whitish vein I don't remember noticing, though I must have, or I wouldn't have picked it up. They sat there all afternoon while I worked, and nobody asked what they were.
