Sol 035

This morning on the mast, very early, there was a layer of dust on the palm of my glove that hadn't been there on the way up. Thin. I rubbed it with my thumb and it came apart without a sound. I kept thinking about it as I pulled the data down: how things settle without anyone watching them arrive. Amara is still looking at that sample. Five sols ago and I can still picture her bent over the sediment, quiet, finding something that doesn't fit. I don't know what it was either. Dust on top of dust.
