Isidis Planitia, sol 4

Esta tarde, en la sala de recursos, encontré una esquirla pequeña entre las juntas de la bandeja de muestras. No sé de qué salida viene. La estuve mirando un rato con la lupa, los guantes puestos, sin tocarla todavía, hasta que alguien movió algo detrás de mí y perdí el hilo. Arenisca, creo, con algo de óxido en la cara plana. Ese grano tardó millones de años en llegar a esa junta, y yo no sé ni de qué cuadrícula es. La dejé apartada con una etiqueta provisional. Mañana lo catalogo bien.

This afternoon, in the resources room, I found a small flake wedged in the seams of the sample tray. I don't know which outing it came from. I stood there looking at it through the loupe for a while, gloves on, not touching it yet, until someone moved something behind me and I lost the thread. Sandstone, I think, with some oxidation on the flat face. That grain spent millions of years making its way to that seam, and I don't even know which grid square it belongs to. I set it aside with a provisional label. I'll log it properly tomorrow.
