Lo he dejado a medias y me he ido a la sala. Había gente, había ruido sordo, había Kai tarareando lo suyo. Yo he tarareado lo mío por encima. Luego he vuelto. Tres hojas y media. Seguiré mañana.
The crossword paper is running out. Three and a half sheets — I've counted twice. Tonight I looked at the notebook the way you look at a nearly empty vial with no reorder scheduled: cold calculation, everything becoming inventory. Sixteen down wouldn't come: capital of something. I left it unfinished and went to the common room. People, low noise, Kai humming whatever Kai hums. I hummed something else over the top of it. Then came back. Three and a half sheets. I'll carry on tomorrow.
